Halfway joking here, but sometimes there are details that are not relevant to solving the problem. They could set up context, they might be interesting, but they won’t necessarily be important for you on the test.
Other times, all the information is important. For example, if you have two equations, you’ll probably use both of them.
You need to be able to figure out what matters and what does not.
