We spent some time looking at linear equations in business situations. Profit, cost, revenue, and demand. They work like similar problems, just with business concepts incorporated. They tend to use letters in place of x and y, but they play the same roles – independent and dependent variables. Be careful to not switch the order of numbers.
When getting a vertex, it’s usually helpful to have the equation in the standard order so the coefficients also are in the order you expect.
When graphing a parabola, one approach that can be useful (if possible) is to get the x-intercepts by factoring and get the vertex using the standard form.
